The age of the rock city is estimated to be 89 million years, and this entire area once lay at the bottom of an ancient ocean. Therefore, the rocks owe their present shape to the action of water. In the rock city, the tallest rock formation, called the Lovers (Czech: Milenci), reaches a height of 81.4 meters, and the narrowest passage between the rocks is only 50 centimeters wide.
