A walking tour of the small Croatian town of Kastel Stari, located between Trogir and Split, gets its name from the word "castles," which means a fortified structure like a fortress, stronghold, or castle, built to protect crops and residents. These fortified palaces, known as castles, indeed looked like fortresses from the landward side, with their turrets, moats, battlements, and drawbridges. However, from the seaside, they were built in the style of Renaissance summer villas, with wide windows and balconies. Around these castles, residents from the old villages on the slopes of Kozjak mountain found refuge and safety, and they began building new fortified settlements. This, out of the 16 casteles, 7 towns with similar names were created, with Kaštel Stari being one of the most well-known. Its popularity has been on the rise, especially since the opening of a new marina in 2021, which attracts many tourists.
From the marina, you can also enjoy a beautiful view of the mountain peaks, including Mali Kozjak at 779 meters above sea level. The town also boasts a sizable beach and numerous restaurants where you can enjoy good food. This video was recorded in July 2023.
