Bosnia and Herzegovina Walking Tour in 4k - MOSTAR

 

A walking tour through the magical city of Mostar, located in the heart of Bosnia's enchanting landscape along the Neretva River. As one of the largest urban centers in the country, Mostar had a population of 103,948 in 2022, representing a mix of ethnicities and religions. Situated in the southwestern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mostar lies on the Mostarsko polje plain at an altitude of 60 to 110 meters above sea level. It enjoys a mix of warm temperate and Mediterranean climates, making the region known for its hot summers and rare rainfall. The city's most iconic landmark is the 16th-century Old Bridge, built in 1566. This architectural masterpiece is also the centerpiece of a revered tradition, attracting visitors from around the world. Sadly, the bridge was destroyed during the war on November 9, 1993, but it was reconstructed and reopened on July 23, 2004. In July 2005, the Old Bridge and its surroundings were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Traces of settlement in Mostar date back to prehistoric times (the Neolithic period), and the area was inhabited during the Roman era. In the 16th century, the Ottomans established a fortress here, replacing the medieval wooden bridge with a stone one in 1566. The city grew as an Ottoman administrative, trade, and craft center along both banks of the Neretva River. Our walking tour begins at the Church of St. Peter and Paul, featuring the tallest tower in the city at 107 meters. From there, we will delve into the old town, crossing the 16th-century stone Old Bridge. We will continue to the Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque and the Nasuh-aga Vučijaković Mosque, followed by a stroll through the Bišćevića ćošak Park and a visit to the 16th-century Karađoz Bey Mosque. Returning through the streets of the old town, we’ll stop by the Tepa market square and the Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque. Crossing the Old Bridge once again, we’ll head to the Nezir-aga džamija Mosque, where we’ll enjoy a fantastic view of the city and conclude our tour.
