A walking tour of one of the most beautiful, charming, and also one of the warmest towns in Croatia, located at the very tip of the country. The town of Cavtat has also been recognized as the most exclusive travel destination in Europe, often compared to the French Saint-Tropez and the Italian Tuscany. The town is situated in southern Croatia, less than 20 km from Dubrovnik. It is picturesquely located on a narrow peninsula jutting into the Adriatic Sea, covered with Mediterranean vegetation, while on the other side rises the impressive Sniježnica massif (1234 meters above sea level). Cavtat is a wonderful place for family vacations, as well as solo or group trips with friends, home to around 2,000 permanent residents, offering visitors peace, tranquility, beautiful historical sites, and numerous attractions. The history of Cavtat dates back to ancient times when a Greek colony, Epidaurus, was founded here in the 6th century BC. In 228 BC, the Romans took over the area and renamed it Epidaurum. In the 7th century AD, the city was destroyed by the Avars and Slavs, and in the Middle Ages (from 1427 onwards), Cavtat became part of the Republic of Ragusa. At that time, the town was separated from the mainland by a canal, and city walls, 270 meters long, were built, which were demolished in 1894. The walking tour begins at Sustjepan Beach, from where we will head through the town center to the second bay, where the boat dock, bus station, and Cavtat Beach are located. From this spot, we will return to the town center, where we will see the Church of St. Nicholas and walk along the promenade, before delving into the narrow streets of the town. After visiting the Monastery of Our Lady of the Snow, we will head up the hill to admire the breathtaking view of Cavtat and visit Mausoleum of the Račić family and the cemetery of St. Roch.
