A walking tour recorded at the end of August in the incredibly picturesque small village of Gandria, Switzerland, located in the Ticino canton on a steep hillside at the foot of Monte Brè and on the shore of Lake Lugano. This place, unchanged for around 100 years, exudes a pervasive nostalgia, featuring winding alleys, steep staircases, walled courtyards, and arcades. The village has a ban on car traffic, meaning one can only reach its outskirts— all to preserve the historic character of its many buildings.
Gandria is both a part of the city of Lugano and an independent village on the northern shore of Lake Lugano, situated right on the Italian border. It has a permanent population of about 275 residents. Despite being located in the Alps, the village is home to Mediterranean vegetation, including palm trees, olive trees, and beautifully blooming oleanders. We begin our walking tour on the pedestrian road Via Nosera, passing through small gardens with olive trees and a view of the lake. Then, we will descend to Via Reccord and head toward the historic center at Piazza A. Giambonini, where we will visit the Church of San Vigilio (Chiesa di San Vigilio), dating back to the 13th century. Later, we will wander through the winding streets of Gandria onto the Sentiero Di Gandria, a scenic path connecting the village with the city of Lugano. In the second part of the video, we will return to the village center and explore its charming narrow streets. Enjoy watching the walking tour in 4K Ultra HD quality with captions!
