Krynica‑Zdroj, Poland - Pearl of Polish Spa Resorts
Discovering Krynica-Zdrój: A Spring Walk Through Poland’s Famous Mountain Spa Town
Nestled in the heart of the Beskid Sądecki Mountains, close to the Slovak border, Krynica-Zdrój is one of Poland’s most celebrated spa resorts. Known as the “Pearl of Polish Spa Towns,” this charming destination has been attracting visitors for more than two centuries with its mineral springs, elegant architecture, mountain scenery, and relaxing atmosphere.
Our latest 4K Ultra HD walking tour was filmed in late May 2026, during the peak of the Beskid spring season, when the surrounding forests are lush green and the town is bursting with life. Located within the beautiful Poprad Landscape Park, Krynica-Zdrój offers a unique blend of wellness traditions, history, nature, and modern attractions.
Starting in the Peaceful Słotwiński Park
The journey begins in Słotwiński Park, one of the oldest and most picturesque green spaces in the town. Although often overlooked by visitors rushing to the famous promenade, the park provides a peaceful retreat away from the busiest parts of the resort.
Among its walking paths and historic spa architecture stands one of the park’s newest attractions – the Brine Graduation Tower, opened in 2019. This wooden structure combines a viewing terrace with flowing mineral-rich brine, creating a microclimate similar to seaside air and offering visitors a unique health experience.
A Town Built on Mineral Waters
Krynica-Zdrój owes much of its fame to its exceptional mineral springs. For generations, visitors have traveled here seeking relaxation, recovery, and the therapeutic benefits of the local waters.
Today, the town welcomes up to 1.5 million visitors annually. While its spa traditions remain at the heart of its identity, Krynica has also evolved into a vibrant center for tourism, sports, culture, and conferences. During winter, nearby ski resorts such as Jaworzyna Krynicka and Słotwiny Arena attract thousands of skiing enthusiasts from across Poland and beyond.
Through the Heart of the Resort
Leaving the park behind, the walk continues along Piłsudskiego Street, the town’s main artery lined with hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, and historic buildings connected to the development of the resort.
The route then passes several notable landmarks, including the MOSiR Ice Arena, one of the most important sports facilities in the region and a venue for international hockey competitions. Nearby, the tranquil Kryniczanka River flows through the town, adding charm to many residential and hotel areas.
Further along stands the impressive Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, often called the Spa Church. Built between 1887 and 1892, it combines Neo-Renaissance architecture with later additions, creating one of the town’s most recognizable landmarks.
Parks, Promenades and Historic Elegance
One of the highlights of the walk is Mieczysław Dukiet Park, famous for its popular multimedia fountain known as “Setka.” During evening performances, water, light, and music combine to create a spectacular show enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
From there, the tour reaches the elegant Dietl Boulevard, named after Józef Dietl, a pioneer of Polish balneology. This historic promenade follows the Kryniczanka stream and showcases beautiful villas, guesthouses, and sanatorium buildings that capture the atmosphere of the golden age of European spa tourism.
The nearby spa district features some of Krynica’s most iconic buildings, including the Main Pump Room, the Old Spa House, the New Spa House, and the historic bathing facilities that have served generations of visitors.
Following the Legacy of Nikifor
No visit to Krynica-Zdrój would be complete without mentioning Nikifor Krynicki, one of Poland’s most famous self-taught artists. Born Epifaniusz Drowniak, he spent most of his life in poverty in Krynica while creating thousands of paintings that would later become celebrated works of twentieth-century Polish art.
The walk continues along Nikifor Avenue, where visitors can find additional spa facilities, cultural attractions, and modern developments that demonstrate how the town continues to evolve while preserving its unique heritage.
A Ride to the Top of Parkowa Mountain
The final stage of the journey brings us to the lower station of the historic funicular railway to Parkowa Mountain. Operating since 1937, the railway remains one of the most beloved attractions in Krynica-Zdrój.
At the summit, visitors can explore the beautifully renovated Music and Light Park, family attractions, scenic walking paths, and the town’s newest landmark – the Observation Tower, officially opened in January 2026.
Standing 36 meters tall, the tower offers breathtaking panoramic views across Krynica-Zdrój, the surrounding valleys, and the forested peaks of the Beskids. After climbing 216 steps, visitors are rewarded with a spectacular 360-degree panorama that perfectly summarizes the beauty of this mountain resort.
